Nvidia's GeForce 8800 GTS 512 graphics card - The Tech Report - Page 3

This is another proof that 8800GTS 512MB on average is faster than two HD3850 in crossfire

And also this review shows that HD3870 in crossfire is not faster than 8800GT SLI

This review is more believable than the review that shows HD3870 getting more than 100% performance increase in crossfire, and thats logically impossible.

EDIT: Here is another proof that 8800GT in SLI is not slower than HD3870 in crossfire

A lot of those tests are with Anti-Aliasing and Antistropic filtering on, which impacts the 3870's more than it does the 8800 GT's

It's not impossible. It will just depend on circumstances, and won't happen often

without AA, the 3870's will consistently win. With AA, the 8800 GT's should win more often than the 3870's will.

Crossfire will still scale better than SLI, over what a single 3870/8800 GT would get. And I believe the 3870's are cheaper on average, and consume less power.

why is that review any more believable than the benches showing the 3870 doing better in crossfire? cos it shows what you want it to? lol...
although, i will say this....if i spend that much money on dual ATi cards and a crossfire mobo...i sure as **** want to enable AA and AF, ya know?
so, in my situation, 8800GT in SLI would be the best choice. i use both os those settings. some dont. plus, there is a pretty decent price difference.
in certain instances, the 3870 crossfire WILL outperform the 8800GT SLI. its ok maroon...you aren't going to explode if you admit that.

I'm pretty sure Nosboost's post proves Apokalipse right... because in AA ATi cards tend to struggle.. but w/o them on.. hd3870's tend to shine in CF
