Why is it not aborting the workload and getting another one? I didn't tell it to ignore deadlines... or does it only notice the deadline when it occurs?

I suggest completely uninstalling, restart, delete SMP Folder.
Reinstall..


Are you setting any CPU usage restrictions?
What do you normally use the computer for when the console is running?
