1440x900 = 1,296,000 pixels rendered
1280x1024 = 1,310,720 pixels rendered
It goes 1024x768, 1440x900, 1280x1024....etc

The amount of pixels rendered does not mean it is a higher resolution, if that was true then when playing a game 1280x1024 would look better than 1440x900, when it clearly doesnt.

Aspect ratio has nothing to do with the actual rendered image.

What the GPU is doing is rendering data for each pixel....more pixels = more work.

Go ahead and run 3dmark06 at 1440x900 and then at 1280x1024....which one has a significantly higher score? (indicating a lower resolution)

About 11.4% more screen resolution.

It goes 1024x768, 1440x900, 1280x1024....etc

Also in those benchmarks no AA/AF was used....

1400x900 is a lower resolution than 1280x1024... Gurusan is right...... even tho if u set your resolution if Windows it jumps from 1280 then to 1440, but 1280x1024 is a higher resolution... but ur right Apokalipse, its always great to have widescreen :)
 
Oh well, cant win em all. Good debate though, kept me entertained. I still prefer 1440x900 for playing on my lcd, untill i get a 22 incher.

i agree.. 19'' Widescreen is the pwnage (well my 22'' is really good too :) xD) especially useful if FPS Games
