lol this is kind of funny. just tried running COD 4 with the only other thing open being windows sidebar.. and COD crashed with a "windows is low on resources, must close program to restore needed memory" error.

i've got 2GB crucial ballistix ddr2 800.

for some reason its saying the sys admin disabled task manager so I cant even see whats eating up 1.5 gigs of memory for no apparent reason.

And i'm a bit in shock since I didnt even have this trouble with 1gb pc3200 before heh.

Any ideas? im lost

and does someone know how I can re-enable task manager? I didnt even know it could be disabled... ridiculous. >.>

Edit, closed sidebar opened windows performance tools. I've got 74% used memory, with Nothing running.
Edit, fixed task manager, its not showing anything out of the ordinary.. at 78% used memory... and rising XD

:S killer lol. just installed vista on a fresh HD yesterday. that was fast >.> I didnt even look at porn yet. posted a hijackthis log just in case. guess i better go find a virus scan.

one thing i didnt think of. insanely unlikely but entirely possible. thanks for the heads up.

ya, I've had several in my experience of cleaning others computers that did that, it is definitely a virus or sorts

its not a virus its Vista which is causing the problems, Vista requires minimum 2Gb Ram to run efficiently , and its a pig when it comes to memory.
iv worked on many computers with customers b#tching about their new computers running slow. So i simply switch to xp and problem solved.

Its too early for vista
i see Vista useless, and a waste of money, the new features are useless like the clock/calender,etc.
but the only thing i like about it is that it supports Directx10

meh vista meh viruses meh meh meh
it could be a bad cpu, or bad memory, or a bad fsb on your mobo, or a bad mobo in general. or vista. or viruses. but, sounds more like hardware to me. brand new rig, right?
lol @ you guys and your "its definitely this".

wow...just...wow...

You need to check the running processes first and rule out software as your culprit. Download Taskmanager here:Download Security Task Manager 1.7 Free Trial - Enhanced Process Viewer that protects your PC

This will help tell you exactly what is running in the backround. To me like other people already mentioned, it does sound like a virus eating up your RAM. Run that software and sort by 'rating'. Try to post a screen shot of what's in that list.

lol I was running vista fine on 1GB ddr pc3200 ram and a 128mb radeon 300x.

and yeah already got process explorer not long after I posted. its better than task manager anyhow lol. wasn't anything out of the ordinary running.

Survey says: Worm. ran Hijackthis and warez found a worm. running smooth as silk now. yeah its a new rig. and 2Gb crucial is plenty to run vista. i have found a few vista quirks that werent there on my old system. its funny how the old system ran it a bit better. I had a heck of a time getting daemon tools to work. Theres somethin else that wont work that I had running on the old pc but I can't remember what it was lmao. And i think its giving me BIOS trouble, but I dont know if that has anything to do with vista or not. Meh i'll find out tonight when I flash the bios and take a look around. ;p.

and who said i wasted money on vista. i may have lousy morals but im no idiot XD

thanks for all the help guys, woulda never thought of a virus after only having the pc running for a day and a half ;p
