what does the sound prior to hard drive failure sounds like?
I've started to hear strange sounds tonight, from both ext. WD and my int. Segate
but they sound different!!!.... so i am confused >.<
I guess I over worked them too hard with the recent video encodings lol

Well, the only time that clicking as been fatal to my HDs is when they become very violent.

If it's loud enough to distract you, then it's probably something to worry about.

But then again, I've had HDs that click and last for years past.

Clicking???
Back up NOW! Clicking is a bad thing. Yeah...it might be a fan...you hope. I back up often...slap all u need on a DVD in case of the inevitable....failure.

God Luck!

Hard drives naturally make all kinds of noise. Some drives sound different and some are louder than others. I know when my Raptor starts doing something it really comes to life...that thing is loud!

However, clicking is a bad thing. It usually means the head is actually hitting something inside the drive, and thus it will fail very soon. It seems odd that two of your drives are doing it at the same time. I would back everything up just in case.
