Intel C2D pricing confusion, et al.

I am thinking about building a new system and am trying to figure out what to buy. I'm looking at the Intel Core 2 Duo processors and am confused as to why the E6750 is less expensive than the E6600.

E6750 @ 2.66 GHz with 1333 MHz FSB is ~$190
E6600 @ 2.4 GHz with 1066 MHz FSB is ~$230

Is there something inferior with the E6750 that I'm just not getting?

I'm also debating what chipset/motherboard to purchase. I'm not a gamer, but I do a lot of video editing and encoding. I also run speech recognition software on top of the normal applications.

the E6600 was an extremely popular cpu probably why they marked it up. The E6750 still a very good chip at a bargain price. Nothing wrong with it. Its Just some sort of pricing option they are doing.

the e6750 is a superior cpu. The e6600 is no longer produced and they probably just didn't bother changing the original price.

Just think about the E6750 being e revision of the old C2D line that E6600 was take for example the revision that Nvidia made to the G80 (8800GTX/S GPU to G92 (8800GT), the 8800GTS 320 it was around $280 to $320 but even thought they release the 8800GT later NVIDIA opted to tweak the core, shrink to a 65nm process, integrate the display engine, and come out with hardware that performed somewhere between the high end 8800 GTS and GTX and obviously the lowed the price.

Now that you mention the Q6600, that is basically the E6600 just is 4 cores (2 cores mores). Obviously most people see the Q6600 superior to the E6750 and better purchase that an E6600 because of the more cores that have. If you don't overclock the Q6600 and you don't have or use multiGPU software or games there was no point in buying one unless you want to stay somewhat "future proof" but that was before the July 22 releases of the C2D with 1333MHz FSB. Now the Q6600 is a favorite among enthusiast and even companies like Dell.
