"The Mother of all boards...."

They should? But if they don't, The one you have is allways good.

"C-Sector..."

You're right! They don't have it! Just scratch that. You still have a really good board. (And it would cost too much to buy it anywhere else, believe me.)

the Athlon 64's come in 754, 940 and 939

the 939's are the newer ones that will replace 754, and the CPU's will have dual channel controllers

I suggest this Asus A8V Deluxe socket 939
this one comes with Farcry if you buy a CPU to go with it
$145 for the mobo, or $630 including an AMD Athlon 64 3500+ (and you get FarCry with it)

and an ATI Radeon 9800 pro (not Atlantis) $198

Seagate 160GB SATA $93

an LG 12x DVDR/RW can burn +, - or RAM (most drives can only burn + or -) $102 + whatever extras

you choose

TTGI 550W PSU $84

Powmax clear acrylic case $53
acrylic cases are good if you want to show off your shiny new hardware

or Raidmax Scorpio-868
can have up to 7 fans, 4x5.25" and 6x3.5" (4 hidden) drives, and looks good too - $55.95

Corsair 1024MB PC3200XLPT TwinX the lowest latency RAM you can get (2-2-2-5 timings), and a gig of the stuff too!
TwinX means it is a matched pair to run in dual channel - $315

Sony 21" Trinitron CPD-G500 max 2048x1536
not new but you'll be very happy with this 21" monitor - $155

total $1630/$1632.95

thanks for all the help!

though i'll probably stay with the antec 550w true control, seagate 160GB SATA and an LCD monitor . . . no space on my friends desk . . .

if he can cough up cash, we'll get the apple 20" cinema display (the new one; with 16ms response time)

otherwise, we'll stay with the samsung 17" with 12ms response time
