what to do in this situation.

I just flat out would not consider the phenoms unless you have a decent AM2 mobo already (which you don't) and you are truly beyond words an AMD fan, but at the moment, if you're investing in Phenom, you are not investing in the best performance for your money, particularly if you have to buy a new mobo with that. You can get the Q6600 to run amazingly with a $95 mobo, without RAID or SLI of course... (ie. DS3L)

true enough.
i've seen some shady ones that were supposedly on 790fx, but meh...i dont believe results untill they are widespread.
ie more than two dudes in a basement with hijacked cpus and hacked up mobos lol.
EDIT:
what Merk says above is also true enough. if i bought a Phenom, nobody would hammer me too much because i have the gear to run it already, so only processor for me. then perhaps later a mobo. plus, i hammer back pretty hard sometimes.
in any event, im not buying either until at least after christmas.
its your money man.

ya but il be buying a new mobo aswell to upgrade to the next generation of prcessors aswell if i go intel, the performence isnt that diferent lol, and ofcourse im a amd fan look at my name, i do like nvidia more tho, the am2+ socket is futureproof, and who nows what will happen in the futre lol, amd may pull thru they may release an even worse product its a gamble, the 13.5% isnt much diference, and that was on an am2 mobo not +, if i end up regreting it il let you be the first to kno man lol, and you can even say you told me so lol. either way itl be a great improvement over what i have now.

well see after some ocing, and whatnot, so far there has yet to be one legit benchmark with the phenom on a am2+ mobo, with ddr800 ram.

What are you talking about?

they used an MSI K9A2 Platinum (790FX) in the AnandTech review... and sure, they used ddr1066 ram with really loose timings, but that would've had a very negligible effect on the results and the higher clock would've canceled the loose timings out to some degree anyway.

bah lol, we'll see soon enough I guess :) I've finally decided to wait on until January for the Q9450 and hopefully some news on the GeForce 9-Series... I'm just not comfortable investing in the 8-Series anymore because they seem to be not too far from the end of their lifespan.

i thought i saw at least ONE review with a 790fx, and that was it.
well, i think he's made up his mind, in any event.
and yes, even though you are rolling the dice...it will be a great improvement.
i'll summon up the guts to roll em when they get to be about 150 bucks+.

forget amd 9700 and get intel Q9450... being loyal dont get you squat mate... you say you want maximum performance then get Intel Penryn which is out in Jan. OR at the same time as then they should price cut all current CPUs.. so a bargain can be had too.

i dotn got time to wait until january, im still undecided, if toms hardware had released a benchie with the am2+ mobo it would have helped, im not sure what to do anymore, i waan go multiple gpu, the cross fire scale better but single solution nvidia pulls ahead, the q6600 and the phenom 9600 are the same price atm but the phenom has a beter quality board for a lower price, with pci-e 2.0
