Vista's drive tools there make life a bit easier then seen with XP. I still use the Linux drive tool GParted for Vista as well as XP for working with partitions including Linux on occasion.

With GParted used you still have two options for later formatting any NTFS type partitions you create namely the DM you now have a grip on and the format option in the repair tools section of the Vista dvd.
