Hello all, sorry you must get this all the time.

I'm building a pc which i will be using for general browsing, some gaming (wolfenstein, counter strike) and lots of work with Macromedia Studio 8 and I was just wondering if the following spec was ok, I have given myself a budget of 700£ for the pc and will be buying an EVESHAM v series for £269, if anyone has any reviews on that please say.
This is my spec so far:

Processor Buying from: Ebuyer Model q6600 95w energy efficient edition (overclockable) £155.68
Motherboard Buying from: Ebuyer ModelMSI P35 Platinum Socket 775 FSB1333 onboard 8 channel audio ATX M £97.99
Case Buying from: Ebuyer Model soprano with window in black £48.29
Power supply Buying from: Ebuyer Model Extra Value Silver 500W PSU - With 12cm Red LED Fan £14.34
Optical drive Buying from: Ebuyer Model hp lightscribe dvdrw £17.99
TV capture card Buying from: Ebuyer Model Hauppauge WinTV Nova-T 500 Dual digital DVB-T PCI £50.07
Keyboard and mouse Buying from: Ebuyer Model Logitech Cordless Desktop EX 110 - USB/PS2 £16.92
Cables Buying from: Ebuyer Model gold plated 2m dvi to hdmi cable £3.99
Power supply lead Buying from: Ebuyer Model kettle type lead for pc £1.66
Case Modding Buying from: Ebuyer Model 2x 12" neons (red) £2.99

Graphics card Buying from: Overclockers Model asus nvidia geforce 8600 gt 256mb gddr3 £70.49 (Might be buying a 8600 gt 512mb from novatech , made by novatech. Any reviews?
Hard drive Buying from: Overclockers Model western digital se-16 500gb sataII 7200rpm £65.79
Ram Buying from: Overclockers Model OCZ 4GB (2 x 2GB) PC2-5400C5 Dual Channel Vista Upgrade Gold Series DDR2 £64.61
Operating System Buying from: Ebuyer Model 32bit or 64bit home premium vista (OEM version not sure which 64 or 32? Ive looked around and results are mixed!) £62

Please help me with spec any ideas welcome, that so far is £731 so a bit over , i plan to overclock to 3ghz so i will also be buying air cooling of some sort possibly arctic cooling.

Cheers
Henry

The 4GB is overkill (2GB is fine) but if you want it, its fine since you are buying the 64-bit OS paired with it anyhow. However, you want at least a 8800GTS 320/640MB, 8800GT, or 8800GTX/Ultra to run Crysis. I'd heavily suggest the 8800GT since it's half the price of the 8800GTX and almost preforms par with it. Everything else seems fine, kind of worried about that PSU being sketchy for you though.

^^^^Agreed. 8800GT FTW. If you try to run Crysis on the 8600GT you might not like the result. I haven't heard of that PSU either. Don't break the commandments of the techies bible!

I made this build for £728.78 on scan.co.uk including VAT and carriage.
My build also includes a 8800GT which is most important. The 8600GT is not great for gaming, the 8800GT, however, is brilliant.

The RAM is 2GB of faster RAM which I believe is a better choice over your 4GB of slower RAM. 2GB is all you need right now. And the faster RAM will help your proccessor (still a Q6600) release its full power.

Also I have thrown a better PSU in there; a cheaper (but still reliable) motherboard; a 32bit Vista OEM (the 64bit is slower with Crysis..); there isnt a TV tuner there but do you really need it? A cheaper but pretty good case. A Samsung optical drive, 400GB Seagate hard drive and finally a basic MS keyboard/mouse bundle.

Wrong in terms of Vista 4gb is not pointless it does give a noticeable boost in performance its only xp where 3+gb is overkill. Vista 64bit is no slower with crysis who ever told you that is wrong plain and simple.

Get the 8800gt and over clock :D you will only get medium settings though with the 8800gt even sli 8800 ultras just max out the settings and still have occasional low fps.

Buy from ebuyer.com you should be able to get a slightly cheaper bundle if not then join the Hexus uk forums and you get free shipping from scan. Kustompcs.co.uk though is by far the best uk retailer for Customer support though!!!!

Have you got a cpu cooler so that you can overclock the q6600???

im buying it from ebuyer and ocuk...
i like the look of that psu , i will probably get that.

Cheers!!

The ACF7 comes with AS5 thermal paste right? You could think about using mx-1 or mx-2 instead. Depends on how far you want to OC. If you're only looking for 3Ghz I think you're probably ok but if you want to be able to take that proc to its full potential you need to do better on the HSF. Of course you could always just do that later if/when you need it. If you had to replace it then 10 pounds aint much in the grand scheme of things.
