that sucks :/ but my family has bought two custom pcs in the last year now, were never gonna get those junky store built ones hehe. Oh and plus you can always upgrade a custom built one unlike some of the manufactured ones (maybe all ??)
Huh?? where did you hear that?... Dude i've owned a Dell for about 4 years now... gotta say their tech support is total sh*ts! Even my neighbor's pet dog can diagnose better than those knuckleheads. I haven't used their tech support since 2001 when i got totally fed up... hopefully they have cleaned up their act sine then.
As far as their PCs go... yeah Crucial was right on the money when he said they are the 'least trouble free'.

I bulit my own system for about $1300 then went on alienware and checked what it would have cost me to buy it off them. To my suprise it was something like $2500.
