i dont think so. as it has been said before in this thread, the 590 chipset for AMD is equivalent to the 680i chipset for intel.
i say get the 9600, it consumes less power and will run less hot. i would be surprised therefore if it didnt overclock at least as high as the 9700 overclock.
i think i'll be picking me up a 9600.
on a last note...SLI is not useless. especially if you SLI the best video cards out (8800GT). hardcore, max setting gaming it is a boon. not to mention high resolution, which it will make all the difference in the world, boys.
 
well nvidia will be releasign ther new chip sets, this month i think the same day as crysis is released or osmething, there suposed to support quad sli, maybe itl be am2+ compliant aswell. but depending how good the r670 is i might get one, im a big nvidia fan but if there good, cheap like the 8800gt, id want to go the multiple gpu rout.
