8800GTS/GTX psu requirements?

My friend wants to upgrade to one of the above cards but his Seasonic 600w psu has got two 12v rails with 18amps on each, is this sufficient ?

so you add the 2 18's together then? you can do that?

iirc, the total amps is 36A pulled across 2 rails, each running 18A.

So yes, the total Amps are 36, more then needed.

Yes, that's why the card has two power slots so it can take advantage of more than one rail.

Ahh but im pretty sure its only the GTX that has 2 power connectors, the GTS only has one doesnt it? so that would mean technically he wouldnt have enough power if the card doesnt allow for 2 connections?

The gts is only 26A on the 12 volt rail so it will be plenty.

People forget that the Amperage suggestion is not for the Card alone. Rather the entire System + the card. (Unless otherwise explicitely stated)

Is your friend aware of the new 8800gt? I would buy that since its really close to gtx and cheaper than a gts.
