How do these power supplys hold up?

Depends on the situation.
But they are ok.

Look at power supply guide linked in signature.
I would never purchase one for my own computers, but they are trust worthy enough to say they are ok.. They aren't the best, they aren't the worst..

Well, like I said, they aren't the worst and they aren't the best. But they are a good choice if your on a tight budget or you are building a low end machine. However, if you have the money and your building a not so low end machine then I suggest looking at some of the other models and brands listed..

Honestly (and I think Ste will agree with me here) I think its worth it to spend a little more money to get a high grade unit, such as the PCP&P units that we have. Check out the PC Power and Cooling Silencer 610.

Or if you want to go a bit cheaper, FSP and Antec are excellent also.

So basically if a power supply is not good it will not output as much power or will increase the chances of my system being short circuited?

basically whats the difference between a 200 dollar power supply vs 50 one.

what are the rest of your system specs?
don't get a $50 psu if you have high end components

i am pretty positive on those parts.
