Hmmm... 8800GT or HD3870 ?? Wonder which will perform better. Just gotta keep gaming at 1280 x 1024 and/or 1024 x 768. Things will be just fine and you can keep to decent budget cards. The 256bit memory will be fine at the lower resolutions but I would not recommend it for people playing with higher resolutions.

Wow compare the HD3870's clocks to that of an 8800 Ultra. If you're looking at evga's ultra, the core clock is almost 200 MHz higher, whereas the memory clock is 150 MHz higher in favor of the HD 3780.

I would say the HD3870 will probably own, unless history repeats itself and ATI's drivers aren't properly optimized at first. In fact I wouldn't be surprised if they delay this one too just like they did with the R600.

Remeber that RV670 was renamed from HD2950 to HD3800

2400Mhz memory speed with 256 bit bus will give you less memory bandwidth than 2160MHz with 384 bit bus

In other words 8800Ultra and even the 8800GTX have higher memory bandwidth than HD3870

The only advantage that HD3870 have over HD2900XT is that it have about 10% higher clock. So, the performance that HD3870 is going to have over HD2900XT is no more than 10%, it might be even less than 10% because of the lower memory badwidth that HD3870 have.

Ok let us just say that it is 10% faster than HD2900XT because the low memory badwidth might not affect the performance. Do you think 10% increase in performance is enough to beat 8800Ultra ?

No I don't think it is enough to beat 8800Ultra. It might perform very close to Ultra but not better.

So, people here need to calm down and stop making prejudges.

We haven't saw any review for HD3870 yet. So, let us wait for the reviews before we claim that HD3870 is going to be a monster.
