I have just bought a new q6600 for a pc i am building, and noticed that it didnt come with cooling paste like my last one did. Is this normal nowadays-is paste no longer used? or do I need to buy some?

Thanks

my e4400 didn't come with any paste which im kinda sad about. but i think they don't give you any paste cause its cheap enough and usually people go out and buy other paste thats better.

Don't ever use a heatsink without thermal paste. Like midn1gh7 said, it's cheap and very easy to get. So I would suggest either AS5, MX-1 or 2.

No, the 'paste' is actually an already-fitted patch on the bottom of the stock HSF. You'll need an aftermarket paste for aftermarket HSF (HeatSink-Fan). My thermalright Ultra 120 extreme came with some, but I used MX-2 instead anyway.

Welcome, nice rig by the way

i built a 4200+ based system for my freind, the 4200+ came with a HS which had some kind of heat pad on it
