The driver detected a controller error on \Device\CdRom0

I just recently built a system for my mate all was good but he started to get lock ups and restarts i have checked the event log and it has about 15 pages of error code 11 and 7. 11 is "The driver detected a controller error on \Device\CdRom0" and 7 is "device has a block". Have read a few explinations but they all differ. Has anyone else heard or had this prob and knows the right steps to take to fix it. Any feedback would be welcomed.

AMD64 3200
Asus KV8 SE Deluxe
Pioneer 107D

You may want to try and remove the driver completely from the device manager then reboot. The device will then be detected and new driver will be installed. If it was a corrupted driver, this might fix it.
