Is an 800w powersupply good enough for this rig:

- Quad Core Q6600 2.4GHz, 2x4MB Cache, 1066FSB
- 3gb Samsung DDR-2-1066 1024MB Ram PC2-8900 (1110MHz)
- Galaxy 8600GT 512MB PCI-Express - Over-clocked - X2 in SLI

and if it matters:

- WD SATA2 250GB 3GB/Sec,7200rpm,8MB buffer
- Creative Labs Sound Blaster Live SB0060 5.1 Digital PCI
- Samsung DVD-Burner 18x dual layer +/-

Thanx for any help. Its the first time im building my own pc. Im getting all that for $1000 AUS. :)

OverKill Comes to mind.

If you want minimal than a 450 Watt Fortron will do fine.
However, if you want room for upgrades or something, then go with a 520 Watt Corsair or an 550 Mushkin. Not that those are your only options. See power supply guide linked in signature..

Welcome to T.F.

and welcome to computer building.

PSU wattage doesn't matter. Well, maybe a little, but only a little.
What matters is the amps. More specifically, the amperage on the 12V rail.

You should get a Corsair 520HX or 620HX.

Next, a 8600gt will KILL that build. Go for a eVGA 8800gts 320mb and some Crucial or g-skills 2GB (2X1GB) DDR2-800 PC6400 ram.

All other parts look great.

Well, i was indeed thinking of the 8800GTS 320mb but are you saying its better than two 8600GT's overcloked with 512mb EACH? If so, wow.

More memory, doesn't mean better. The number of stream processors, is what affects the performance of today's graphic cards, the most. Two 8600GTs only have a combined of 64 SPs, while a single 8800GTS has 96 SPs.

May i ask why?

Because the 8800GTS and up will trump all the others. It was built to be the behemoth of the video cards and its specs makes it all better. It's all about the stream processors and shaders and the way the card can handle it. The 8800gts has more shader processing power. Also, there is also the bus width. The 8800gts has way more bandwidth that the 8600SLI.

Okay. So should i get:

a) GALAXY G.Force 8800GTS 320MB PCI-Express, Over-clocked - $350
b} Sparkle G.Force 8800GTS - 320MB PCI-Express,Model - $360
c) Sparkle G.Force 8800GTS - 640MB PCI-Express - $470

The brands are pretty random over here at the shop near me. PS: All prices are in AUS. I also dont have alot of money so the $470 is likely to break the bank.
