He means to download a copy of your OS's CD. I believe it's legal as long as you have a legal product key. Or you can contact the PC's manufacturer for one, or I believe you can contact Microsoft for a disc, as well.

thats what i meant... we can use the "t-word" so we use euphemisms to get out of saying it :)

O&O is the best out there IMO.
you can use the free trial forever, you just have to uninstall it every time the free trial ends, then re-install. i do the same thing with nod32...takes like 5 minutes.
free stuff is the best stuff.

Since reaching the recovery console doesn't involve any installation you can simply borrow an XP cd to boot to the recovery console and exit afterwards. When you do get a cnance to use your own copy you can install the recovery console as an F8 startup menu option avoiding the need to even have an installation disk onhand.

The MS page with the information on that as well as the commands you can use there is seen at How to install and use the Recovery Console in Windows XP

In fact since I had to reinstall XP when the first board quit on the new build I just installed the recovery console on the spot as seen from the screens below.

With the installation disk in the optical drive and answering yes at the install prompt the installation files were then downloaded direcctly from Microsoft on the spot. Now it's ready for use on any fresh startup of the system.

oh wow lots of info well im right now using this internet site called house call i think its by trend micro but when its done scanning im gonna DL those programs the O and D thing

O&O, not O&D. LOL.

With O&O you can actually get 0% fragmentation. With the pro version you can set it to check your drives and defrag them when they need it.

Housecall is an online scanner, not a true antivirus. You need an antivirus program running in your computer if you are online. NOD32 is awesome, and if you can do the trial like nagasama said...

nod32 eats viruses for lunch. like they were little babies.
im serious dude it totally found every crappy trojan and adware piece of junk on my rig.
