Hello peoples, I'm on a tight budget and I have the option of a 1440x900 res 19in ws or 1680x1050 20 in. What should I choose in terms of quality, not size. I heard some newer games have fps slowdowns with 1680x1050, your thoughts or suggestions would be GREATLY appreciated!

An 8800GTS would rip through any game on 1440 x 900. With the GTS on 1680 x 1050, it's smooth, just not as much frames from 1440 x 900.

I'd say, you'd have a better chance at maxing games on a 19", with a GTS, than on 1680 x 1050...in terms of future gaming.

I still can't max some games with the GTS... so most future games are out of the question, I can pretty much only max out quake (not ULTRA) and the source games... no on World In Conflict, no in FEAR etc.

you can't max out FEAR? i've seen people with a GTS 320mb max out FEAR... u sure its not your CPU bottlenecking??

this guy ran it at 1900x1200 with a fx-62 and got:

* Min- 12
* Avg- 36
* Max- 57

so i'm guessing bottleneck?

oh I meant, max out meaning get a reasonable fps (60 avg) too

heh, my standards are apparently much higher then you guys... 30 fps avg in a shooter is like watching a slideshow 0_0, how can you play?

then again... I scrim a lot and try to join in on cal and such

Yeah same here. Maxing out means still being able to play smoothly with good Frames. I can't do that with World in Conflict @ 1400x900. Oblivion can also get tricky. These newer games sure do have alot to them.

So what's the verdict here, no dice even on a 1440x900? Also is it possible to get the video card to upscale a lower res to native if I got a bigger screen or is that just a bad idea?

I can max out CS:S at 1680x1050, at 16X AA, 16X AF, and all settings on full.

8800 GTS 320MB at 620MHZ, Athlon 64 X2 6000+, currently at 3.0GHZ (will overclock again as soon as the little things from my watercooling arrive)

I play BioShock on 1680x1050 with everything on highest

And I didn't overclock my 8800GTS 320MB yet
