Can I run a socket 754 AMD athlon 64 3400+ on a socket 939 motherboard? If not then should I get an asus k8v deluxe motherboard w/ an athlon 64 3400+ or a 3500+ athlon 64with an asus a8v motherboard. witch motherboard would last me longer?
Different socket chips will not fit in different socket motherboard. Socket 939 motherboards would last you the longest, mainly with many features the 754 is not capable of supporting (i.e. Dual Channel).
The socket 939 processors start at the 3500+ and if you have the money get it instead of the 3400+ which is on the 754 and will prevent future 64 bit upgrades .
The motherboard from ASUS that supports socket 939 uses K8T800 pro chipset and is called the AV8 Deluxe and comes with a WIFI g card as a bonus . Be warned all of the socket 939 boards as of now are expensive .
