Is it bad to have too much power?

What I mean is if you've got a system that only needs 350w but you use a PSU with 500w, will something get fried or will the extra power just not get pulled?

I'm gonna guess that the extra power wont get pulled, because I've heard people say all over that if you're not sure of your exact power needs, to go with a little more.

I would be careful with it. Most motherboards and other peripherals only need a good supply of 350 watts. 500 watts can be over kill. I would tone it down just a bit.
