Hi,

I'm building a PC for a friend, he's got £900 for the PC and monitor and needs evrything, so keyboard and mouse included. He said he can go a bit over and he wants a TV tuner as well, here's what i've come up with:
Coolermaster CM690 case
EVGA GeForce 8800 GTS 320MB
OCZ Technology 700W Active PFC GameXStream
Crucial 2x1GB 240-Pin DIMM PC2-6400 Unbuffered Non-ECC CL4
Asus P5k-E
Intel C2Q q6600
Seagate Barrucuda 7200.10 500GB S300
LG Electronics 18 x DVD+/-RW/12XRAM IDE LS Retail Black/Beige Bezel
Kensington Pilot Laser Wireless Desktop Set
Samsung 22" Wide SM226CW 2MS TFT
Terratec Cinergy 2400i DT
I've gone over over budget though, any ideas where I can save money?

You might be looking to consider downgrading a few components. How far over are you? For a start, you can save £15 by changing the GameXstream to a Corsair 520HX (which should be more than enough, and is a better PSU).

Using a Gigabyte P35-DS3R or -DS3L would save you ~£50

maybe theres room for a few quid saving on the case

do they need a C2Q? whats the computer application?

£900 for that level of PC, with a monitor, is pushing it a bit (especially as the samsung 22" will put you back ~£240).

Put in a 2900 PRO instead of the 8800GTS first off, I believe they are cheaper in the UK than even here. Downgrade the PSU to the 520HX or the 550VX, and then the motherboard to a DS3R.

The samsung is a very good monitor but look for a cheaper one.

Hi,

Thanks for all the help, I got the price down to just over £900 by changing the processor to a E6750, changing the PSU and changing the monitor to a 20" Samsung.
