Hi, I have a question about the cooling fan cover in my Dell Dimension 4600. Is it safe to remove it, or should I keep it on? I want to remove it so I get better airflow and reduced temperatures.

you can probably remove it and it wont hurt anything, but i dont know much about that system. in general it shouldnt cause a problem

hmmm... i think it voids the warenty, unless that's gone. just be extreemly careful not touch it with any thing that is charged with static electricity...it's a very risky thing to do, i would say if you could just go out and bye a new case with good air flow, of drill some holes for extra fans. custumize your case, then you can have a cool dell!

it won't influence short term

They consider many factors when Dell design the shell, you can DIY as you like

thanks

Thanks guys, I'll remove it, but no $$ to get a new case or anything like that right now ... maybe in a couple months. I'm pretty sure it won't void the warranty. Thanks! :D

The cover is in place to stop wires/cables from getting to the fan itself.

It probably won't reduce temperatures but should reduce noise levels.
