Just cause you fps meter goes above 100 or 200 fps doesn't mean you are displaying at that rate. If the highest your lcd/monitor goes is 75 hz, thats all your gonna get.

yep, thats true, thats why people usually cap their fps directly on, or 1-3 fps above their hz rating since raising it more will just waste power and add heat

arn't hertz a totally different rate than fps?

You haven't taken physics yet have you...

A hertz is a cycle/sec. 60Hz is 60 cycles/sec. Your monitor's refresh rate is the the limit of what you can actually experience when it comes to smoothness.

If the monitor can only display 60Hz, but your game is pushing out 120 fps, you only "see" every other frame, and the game is technically 60fps in your eyes.

nope physics is 11th grade, i got honers bio and AP chemistry first

"Can't wait till they come out with a cheap 100+ hz LCD, would be so much better for gaming."

100% correct. Seems like LCD monitors for several years have been getting better refresh rates and contrast ratio's, but my 3-4 year old LCD has 75mhz which is still pretty standard today.
