can my 500 watt thermaltake psu support a 8800gts?

Eitehr you mean 8600GTS or your specs are wrong. And I hope your specs are wrong because wasting that Striker extreme on an 8600 is just... a shame! And yes, 500w will work just fine! Max that thing will pull about 100watts, so you'll be good.

That is a very tough question however I am going to say no. You see normally 28 or 29 amps you could possibly squeeze out an 8800GTS with however you have a Quad-Core. I highly recommend a PSU with at least 35 amps on the 12's if not more since you have a Quad

I'm running a 580watt PSU on my set up... 680i, GTX, water cooling, 11 fans, 3HDDs, two DVD Burners... and that's with output ratings of +3.3V@30A, +5V@36A, +12V1@20A, +12V2@18A, -12V@0.8A, +5VSB@2.5A.. So overall a combined Amperage of 38... But I still think that PSU will be fine for him @ 29A.

Not too mention everything is overclocked to h*ll... A lot of people over do it ion the power supply....

You have an E6600....he has a Q6600. Theres a huge difference in power needs here. To overclock his very high like your E6600 is he would need around 8 amps more on the 12v's alone

I think the 8800GTX heavily overcloced makes up for the slight increase in processor power consumption... I don't know the exact power consumption ratings on either of the procs. I do know they operate within the same voltage range, by like a few hundredths of a volt stock. But that's unrelated XD

You should look that up so we know, meanwhile, I'll be sleeping XD

Edit: Yeah, I suppose maybe if he were attempting to reach my clocks, but I'd say that's not very plausable given heat restrictions.

Edit: Bah, I say just try it out! What have you got to lose? If it fails, buy a new one, if it works just fine, than hurah you save money.

They operate at the same voltage but at the same speed the watts used are literally double. An E6600 @ 3.9ghz with 1.52 Vcore is around 160 watts while a Q6600 @ 3.6ghz with 1.52 Vcore is around 235. If the Q6600 could hit 3900mhz safely the watts would be close to the 300's...300 watts is 25amps on the rails alone. at stock a GTX takes around 10-11amps...overclock that and your looking to need a CPU with 42+ amps. The Corsair 520HX can do this

I run my E6700 and an 8800GTS on a 480watt power supply. You have plenty of juice
