In about that time, AMD will release their K10 CPUs, which I think, will be better than the current processors.

If it is what I am thinking Santa Rose processors the only difference I believe is that they have more FSB (Front Side Bus). I could be wrong but I have a little bit of confidence in this post

Hey Cheeseking...

On your model build plan, you selected the Arctic Cooling Freezer 64 Pro. That is only for AMD processors. So that's not compatible, with your choice of the Q6600. If you're into overclocking, I would suggest you get the Tuniq, which is a much stronger heatsink, for cooling a quad core.

I would also drop the XMS2 set, and get the Crucial Ballistix, because they're cheaper, and perform better for the money.

Stick with a p35 board not the older 680i's. What b1g posted earlier is probably going to be the best bang for the buck. There is some room to play around with some of the stuff, but what he suggested is probably the most cost effective build going right now.
