I need advice building a 5-6k USD 'puter

B1gapl, its not something I know much about, but the HD: isn't the raptor series where its at in terms of gaming? no space, I know, but still....

The only thing that a 10k rpm hard drive has an effect on gaming, is the load times. Nothing with fps. Plus, the WD 750GB is on par with Raptor's speed.

They're probably not as fast as the WD 750GB, but they're one of the faster 7200rpm hard drives.

Look man the smartest thing for you to do would be to set aside $2500 from that $6000 and use it to built an AMAZING Rig then save the remaining $3500 to insure future proofing just upgrade as time goes on, honestly $6000 on one rig is overkill man

as far as your rig goes I suggest 8800GTX a g0 Q6600 some Ballistix Ram (2x1gb) Asus P5k Deluxe is a great mobo, I would personally skip the rapters but thats just me

That set of RAM is not compatible with the P5K3 motherboard. You need DDR3, which we said many times, that it's not worth buying. Choose the P5K Deluxe instead.

The Tracers aren't necessary, unless you want the lights. And if you are getting 4GB of this stuff, you need a 64-bit OS.

You really need two DVD burners?

I meant to list the P5K Deluxe and I only have a 32 bit xp pro. I guess I should only get 2 gigs ram. I don't need the lights. I have no idea why I think all computers should have two cd/dvd burners. so my answer is no, I don't need 2.

If you don't need the lights, get the regular Crucial Ballistix.
