bad harddrive

well i thought my problems were over. i updated the reg key. restarted the computer and it immediately told me i needed to format the drive. so i set windows to format. i left it going for over 12 hours and it still wasn't down. it looked like it was stuck at the same spot. partition magic still sees it as bad and is not able to format. i left windows still formating it but I think its going to get stuck again.

Maxtor has powermax a hdd diagnostic tool you could see what it does. How old is the drive?

i'll try the powermax. less then a year old

figured i would give my results in case anyone has this problem they can search this tread and find the solution


i used powermax booted it off a floppy. ran all the test on the drive passed them

then did a low level full format. started windows created the partition and everything is working perfect.
