I want to build myself a new rig and have about 400 to spend on it. I only need the components, so no case/monitor/keyboard, or any of that crap. I can't go much over $400, so I want the best bang for the buck (of course). I think AMD offers the bang/buck for under $400 rigs, so i was thinking something like
AMD Athlon 64 X2 4200+(65W) Windsor 2.2GHz Socket AM2 Processor
Model ADO4200CUBOX - Retail
$74.99
A-DATA Value Series 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model VDQVE1A16K - Retail
$64.99
EXCELSTOR Jupiter Series ESJ8080S 80GB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive
$36.99
Subtotal: $176.97 (so far)
I need help with the Motherboard ( i don't know what chipsets and crap to get) and I want one that doesn't bottleneck anything and it's reliable. Keep that under 70 bucks... the cheaper the better.
Now the fun part... I need the best video card for around $100. I was looking at the 8500GT and X1600Pro, but I don't know how good those are or if there are other ones with the better bang/buck ratio.
I also want to know if it's better to get 4x512MB ram or 2x1GB. For dual channel, that is.
