format my hard drive

I'm looking to format my hard drive and I want to make a back up of my software and files I have a 8gb flash card and I have cleaned my computer of all but 7gb of used space.

I have a 2 part question
1) First how do I back up my hard drive onto my flash card.
2) How easy is it to format a hard driver and reinstall XP.

1. I would assume, that you just drag the files in the flash card.
2. Very easy. Set your CD drive as the first boot priority. Insert Windows CD. Follow instructions. It will ask you, which partition or hard drive to format. Then you just install Windows.

Go into the BIOS, and look for the Boot Sequence menu. Set the CD drive, as the first in the list.
