Why does my Liteon DVD-ROM not play DVDs right?

Ive been having some mind numbing issues.

First is, with some DVD's They play smooth as butter without a hitch.

Although with some DVDs, either they "Play, stutter a bit, play some more, stutter". Or with one particular DVD most of the time the DVD isn't picked up and if you try to access the D:\ it hangs up and nothing happens untill u take out the DVD.

I'm refering to DVD movies.

The purple discs seem to be more of a culprit than the silver sided ones.

I updated the firmware of the DVD to no avail. Even tried cleaning the sensor and removing dust, to no avail.

I think im going to pick up a new sata one soon.

The DVDs play without a hitch on anything else ive tried (xbox 360, 2 other PCs).

Im so annoyed.

try reinstallling OS , usually the computer is at fault, this happened to my old sony vaio so i formated reinstalled xp and runs normally
