We really wouldn;t be able to tell without knowing what mobo and BIOS version you're running.

Only being able to up the Bus speed will not mess with your temps really at all since the vCore isn;t being altered (voltage).

However, the stock HSF on C2D's suck... biiig time. I'd suggest just getting the AF7.

Your mobo may have the FSB:RAM Timings linked, but probably not. It all depends on the mobo.

Your motherboard does not support the newer C2Ds, with a 1333MHz FSB. Only the older models with a 1066MHz FSB.

I'm sure the bottleneck wouldn't be noticeable with a C2D.

Why not save some money, and go for the E6320 or E6420. They will just as easily, reach over 3.0GHz as well.

All Core 2 Duos are dual core processors. And you're correct. Your motherboard does not support quad core processors.
