why wont the folder change from read only?

i click properties and untick read only and click appyl or ok, but when i click properties again, it is read only again.

Because folders themselves are read only. It is the files contained within the folder that are changeable. What is it you are trying to do that you need a folder not to be read only.

well i wantt o be able to add files to the folder.

So drag and drop the files onto the folder. Or select all the files and cut and then open the folder and paste them into it. Either way you should be able to add files to any read only folder. All my folders are read only and i have upwards of 30GB in some of them. No issues.
