$600 Gaming build and MSI 6600 GPU question.

So the build took a turn for the worst...my brother's friend is now requiring that he "replace" the 6600 with something else. so the question is, is it worth replacing the 6600 below for another Pci-e card ($60- cheapo) or can he get something better for himself for around $100?

Options:
1) keep the MSI NX6600GT 128MB and buy his friend a 7300GT fpr $60
2) what is best card he can get for around $100?
3) what is best card he can get for around $150 and i'll try and convince him to up his budget yet another $50.

Again, his plan is to upgrade the GPU within 2 years once $$$ gets a bit getter so he doesn't want to spend more than he has to. suggestions/opinions appreciated.

Have him get a 7900gs and overclock it - there's a PNY for about 120 on Newegg...I'm actually thinking about getting one myself... From what i've heard and read, the card is pretty solid.

Have him get this one:

It's $74.99 with the rebate. Cheap for a good GPU
Newegg.com - EVGA 256-P2-N615-TX GeForce 7600GT 256MB 128-bit GDDR3 PCI Express x16 SLI Supported Video Card - Retail

OMG, here's a cheap one with the mail in rebate for $119!!!!!!

Newegg.com - BFG Tech BFGR79256GSOCE GeForce 7900GS 256MB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express x16 SLI Supported Video Card - Retail

Good specs for that GPU. Actually, get this one over the 7600GT. It's higher end than the 7600GT for not that much difference in price. But you better act fast with these rebates.

problemo: newegg has something against us Canadians :p

Best I can do on a 7900 is $141 + tax: $162

Canada Computers - : BFG GeForce 7900 GS OC nVidia GeForce 7900GS Chipset (525MHz) 256MB GDDR3 (1320MHz) PCI-Express Graphics Card 20 Pixel Shader Processor SLI-Ready Windows Vista Ready.

So...better to get the 7900 for $162 or get the 6600 for $60 and upgrade in a year or two to a 8800 or better?

[edit] option 2 is the Asus Extreme N7600GT which the cheapest i can find is 115 after tax.

3 options:
1 - 6600GT for $60, upgrade in a year or so
2 - 7600GT for $100 upgrade in two years
3 - 7900GS for $160 upgrade in three years, upgrade the CPU first

Oh man that sucks big time. I hear that Newegg are planning to expand to Canada. I hope they do it sooon too because there is a high market potential up there.

In a year or two, we're going to see a whole new generation of video cards. They change too darn fast, like every 6 months, lol. I would say buy the best that you can afford now since you need it, even if that includes getting the 7900GS.
