Which should I go for, both are about the same price, both 'gaming and high performance' memory.. And would either play kindly with my old stick of 512mb Wintec?

Cant you pick up 2 gig for just a few bucks more? Most people here are going to tell you to get crucial ballistix. I am running 2gb of ocz, looks similar to those and i havent had any problems with them. Although mine are rated 4-4-4-12.

Can't go 2gb yet, not enough spare change.. I'm looking for something thats less than 55 dollars shipped and good for gaming.

definatly save up an extra 15 and get crucial ballistix off newegg for $70 after MIR, its quite worth it

well to answer ur question...

i'd take the Patriot because of the lower CAS Timings, but the issue is u have two 512MB sticks in the KIT.... while the gold has higher CAS Timings and 1 Stick of 1GB having more expanability... choose if you want an easy upgrade or better clocked RAM

DDR is what you get with two sticks. It stands for Double Data Rate and it gives alittle more performance.
