talked to a friend of mine and he said torrents in canada are illegal now.

True?

thanks in advance.

Torrents of certain things have always been illegal. Like of XP and games and movies. Those are all illegal no matter where you are. It breaks copyright infringement. Only torrent that are legal are for Linux and some movie that you buy thru the new BitTorrnet site. Other than that yes he is right. They are illegal and always have been.

It just depends on what the torrent file contains. Like Makaveli said, if its movies/music/etc, then yes they're illegal. But if it contains something that was free from the get-go (like freeware, or contains shareware), then they're perfectly fine.

Yeah, at torrentspy, comments have been disabled.

Furthermore it depends on the location. If you are inside E.U. except Germany (Like me), Isps give information about user log files that are kept at their servers only if a felony has been commited by the user they don't give any info for simple misdemeanours. There was only one time that Columbia detected an IP of a user of a greek ISP and forced them to cut his line off for downloading movies and then he changed ISP with also defaming them over the net so as to make them lose lots of clients.

Technically yes. But depending on where you are when you are downloading. Since you are teh end IP you are teh one at risk.

The funny thing in Greece is that there are some black men (without being racisting but at 99% they are black), that sell pirated movies especially to older people over 40 years old, that don't know how to download a movie, or even what a pc is. A movie costs 10 euros (~11,5$) and a music cd 5 euros (~5,75$). Well it costs less to buy from them, but the quality is **** and you'd better download them over the internet.
