DVD drive can't read VCDs after virus removal

My roommate asked me what was wrong with his DVD drive not recognizing VCDs after removing a virus along some important system files which he didn't know. The drive can still recognize other formats. Has anybody run to this problem before? Why does this happen and what did you do?

Did the drive come with drivers? Reinstall them if so.
