Hi, I'm making a new machine for UT3 and I'd like to get some feedback as to my choices. I'm not a complete noob when it comes to putting together computers, but no pro obviously. I already had some help from UT forums, but I wanted to get some more professional advice before I buy everything. My budget is fairly high, but I dont want to be paying $200 for 3% performance increase. Here's what I came up with so far.

ASUS Striker Extreme LGA 775 NVIDIA nForce 680i SLI ATX The Ultimate Gaming Motherboard - Retail $299.99

I figured I might as well go with striker MB and 8800 GTS for now. Then at some point when 9x come out I can just buy two of those and do SLI. Running one card on SLI mb is not going to mess anything up right?

I'm pretty undecided on the case. My house is pretty hot around summer so good cooling is important for me. Would be great to hear some suggestions on this. CoolerMaster one I have up there seemed pretty good. I suppose you cant really be 100% sure until you try it with cases. Only issue I can think of right now is that it only comes with 2 Fans, which means I would have to buy several more?

Is buying another raptor to do raid0 worth it?

When it comes to a monitor I really want top performance. I care very little for saving money when it comes to this part. I decided to go with a widescreen 22"(1680x1050), seems like a perfect fit since I currently use 19" regular. Somebody suggested buying a 24" for 1920x1200 to be able to play hd in native res. I'm worried about 24" not being able to perform as well as a 22", not to mention possibly being too big.

Couple people mentioned power supply not being able to handle my system. I think it's enough for current setup, no? Cutting it too close? But I guess I will have to upgrade once I go SLI? Or should I just buy more powerful one right now?

forget the 680i
chuck in a gigabyte ds3r (great for o/c p35)
q6600 (alot better if u paying that much for e6850)
2Gb of gskill HZ ddr800 or crucial ballistix ddr800 (both great o/c)
seagate 320GB 16mb (raptor doesnt offer better gaming)
and yes as said oem home premium vista

that what i would rec. alot better then ur current idea imo and prob alot less aswell.

I would suggest the eVGA NF680 if you are set on the 680i chipset (/ set on SLI).
Otherwise there is the P35 chipset: the Gigabyte as baron5 suggested, or the Asus P5K, of course that would make SLI problematic. Not that the striker extreme is a bad Mobo- its just there might be better options. I've heard of a few problems with the BIOS with the striker.

No problem running 1 GPU on an SLI Mobo, but you might want to see what the 2x series 9 in SLI benchmarks are like before you shell out the required $2.5billion. From what I understand, SLI performance is a little underwhelming with existing cards.

If you are planning on getting a 9 series, is it really worth spending so much on the 8800GTS? even if you are going with the 8800GTS, the 320Mb version is cheaper and I hear you can overclock it up to 640 performance.

That said, it doesn't look like cost is your worry, what with the coolermaster 832, the asus striker, and the plans for the 9 series. I guess my point is: you could get a similar (if not better) powered machine for significantly less.

Ye, my Overclocked E6600 at 3.2GHz beats the stock E6850 in most benchmark that I read, mine is a tad bit higher scores. But the Q6600 at Stock beats my OC'ed E6600 on everything.

get a Q6600 with a EVGA 680i (lifetime warranty cant beat that)

then get at LEAST a GTX. if you want a gaming PC dont get a GTS.

i'd also go wtih Crucial Ballistix memory
WD 750GB HD. its just as fast as a Raptor, same price with more storage.

and i would NOT expect the 9series to be cheap either. you will be looking at least 800-900 for a GTX. i'd just get a 8800GTX or Ultra, then SLI when the prices come down. then upgrade to the 9's later on.

and one thing i think you will regret is the 550W PSU. should have got at least a 750 to be on the safe side.

for gaming a 8800gts is fine. im running fine on a freakin 6800gs. the ultra is just ******** cost wise, and the 640mb version is only a little increase in preformance, get the evga 8800gts 320mb.
Also dont get a raptor, way overpriced. get a larger hd for cheaper.
q6600 ftw.
I use that monitor btw, and its amazing. definately get it

I'm using a 24" acer at 1920x1200 with an 8800 gts 320 and so far i havent had any slowdowns or performance issues. I'll see how it holds up once crysis comes out, but i'll most likely step up to a gtx for a couple hundred bucks if the g92's are going to be too expensive at launch.

ok.. not such a great build for the price... firstly get a tuniq tower 120 w/ a q6600 cuz u have such a high budget, get an 8800gts 320mb... since its proven that its exactly the same in benchmarks as the 640mb in most situations... no no on the striker extreme, go gigabyte p35-ds3r and Crucial Ballistix and since ur buying from newegg:

Newegg.com - CHIMEI CMV 221D-NBC Black 22" 5ms DVI Widescreen LCD Monitor 330 cd/m2 800:1 - Retail

this is a great monitor
