Okay so i was just wondering. Right now my computers PS is a 300w.

Currently it is overheating and my computer automatically shuts off.
I have a 400w power supply sitting here. And i was just wondering am i able to switch them? Would the 100w difference do anything? As long as they are both set on 115v would i be good to go?

Any info would be great!!

Hey Decypher,

It will probably make the system more stable. How many amps do both PSUs, have on their +12v rails? You can check by reading it's label.

Also, what are the specs of your system?

Thanks for the welcome ;)

The 400w says +12v / 10A
And the 300w says+12v / 14A

PC specs are:

Gigabyte motherboard
1.250gb RAM
Pentium 4 2.4ghz
Radeon 128mb Graphics card
140gb Hard drive

Hope this helps.

I wonder if those power supplies have more than one +12v rail. Especially that 400w, unless it's a very cheap one.

Decypher,
See if you can find more than one +12v rail, on the label. It would say something like +12V1 and +12V2.

Yea thats the only one. Its just a crappy PS that was given to me. I have another also...

Says:

Output 450w MAX

+12V = 15A

And thats also the only +12v

I just need anything because the one im using now is screwed. I had to take off the shell to the PSU and the side off my computer and have a massive industrial fan blowing on it lmao.

Computer doesnt shut down what so ever with the fan. And it only shuts down on me when i am playing an online game.
