right straight to point offered to my mums freinds pc, pick it up from her house, take it home, open it up and about 6 capacitors have bled crusty brown stuff, i explain to my mum whos good on a pc but hardware illiterate whats happened and offer to replace the 478 mobo,

i try to explain this to the friend but she dosnt understand either, so my question i, drum rolllll, why do capacitators bleed?

Read that web site. There was a HUGE fiasco over some stolen capacitor recipe that was then used on tons of boards which lead to the caps overheating and bulging/leaking. Basically if a capacitor gets too hot gas expands inside and it breaks the little X on the top. Lots of old capacitors slowly dry out over time which can also lead to overheating and then bulging.
