With your budget I say why not get the 8800gtx.. Not many bother to remeber to get a sound card, they are a great upgrade. One superior to the motherboards onboard system can be had for $40.

Since he's got the room in his budget (man, I really want a CM 830 case ), would a P5K Deluxe be worth the extra ~$80, or is it not $80 better than the DS3R?

If you have extra for the P5K Deluxe, go for it. If you feel like you're stretching it, to get the P5K Deluxe, just stick with the DS3R. The DS3R is an awesome, inexpensive board.
