DVD-RW tray not opening (opens after few tries)

recently my dvd-rw tray won't open and i hear some sound that seems to refuse to open. after few tries it ejects but it closes normally. i'm really getting annoyed by this and how do i fix this?

It sounds like a motor issue.. I would guess that it's failing and you should get a new one? they're like less than $20 US.

probably not, since he says it does open after a few tries.

But still, a new drive is a good idea.

It is standard practice to make all CD/DVD drives with a little hole. This hole you can stick a reshaped (straight) paperclip in and use it to eject the drive by force. That's what you need to do, locate the hole, it's on the front.

I had 1 fail on me like that too , i opened her up and lubed all the gears and what not with grease , turn out to be weakened motor , so i had to toss out the cd-drive

im guess the gears are running dry and its hard for the mechanisms to move, open her up carefully and grease up the joints and mechanisms
