Audio input question... Mic

Hey...
I just setup my new computer, and I'm trying to get my microphone input to work.

Here's my specs...
AMD XP 2800+ (64bit)
512 PC2700
Windows 2000 Pro

I'm not sure about my sound card, but my device manager says:
Realtek AC'97.

I have several audio cards (appears to be, has several locations for audio) and I know the card I'm using works because my output works on it.

I have tried messing with everything, nothing. I've tried 'Cool Edit Pro' to record, then I tried the built in Windows 'Recorder'. Nothing. I tried 2 mics, nothing. So its gotta be a config problem.

Any help guys? lol, I think I gave all the info I possibly could, if you need anymore info, lemme know!

maybe ur cards defective? if its onboard sound, which it sounds like, its probably shit. get a sound card.
