NF7-S is by far the best AMD Athlon motherboard out there, it has all the features of the Asus, plus it overclocks a whole lot better and is a lot more stable. Also the onboard audio is better.

hmm i think i need a new motherboard if i'm gonna get 64 2800+....but there are some expensive ones and some cheap ones....would the cheap ones work as well? I'm not going to overclock, just need it to be fast and reliable....

here are some cheap ones....

CHAINTECH "SK8T800" K8T800 Chipset Motherboard
CHAINTECH "VNF3-250" nForce3 250 Chipset Motherboard
BIOSTAR "K8NHA PRO" nForce3 150 Chipset Motherboard
GIGABYTE "GA-K8S760M" SiS760 Chipset Motherboard

and some more expensive ones.....

MSI "K8T Neo-FIS2R" K8T800 Chipset Motherboard
GIGABYTE "GA-K8N PRO" nForce3 150 Chipset Motherboard
ASUS "K8V SE Deluxe" K8T800 Chipset Motherboard
MSI nForce3 250 Chipset Motherboard for AMD Athlon 64 Socket 754 CPU, Model "K8N Neo Platinum" (MS-7030) -RETAIL

i know the cheaper ones will have less features, but i'm asking will they be the same reliability?? thx

I just bought the Abit KV8-Max3 (Socket 754) today...

Was I ever impressed!... This motherboard was much better than I ever expected it to be (first time with Abit). I would definatly have to recommend this mobo. You get so much for a good price ($229 CDN).

Abit KV8-MAX3

P.S.: The motherboard is one of the most important parts in a computer, and is often overlooked. Take my advice, do not go cheap... If you want something with reliability, speed and power, it's gonna cost a bit more!... Good luck!

One of the most important? In my opinion it is the most important. The motherboard is the base of the computer. If the component that everything plugs into is garbage, then the system will act as such, regardless of any other component....

The reason is said ONE of the most important is because the PSU also plays a very important roll. If you have a powerful mobo connected to some no name piece of sh*t PSU (regardless of wattage), u are going to run into problems somewhere along the line!...! Most ppl under estimate the importance of a good PSU!

Anyone willing to buy a good motherboard and neglect the power source should know what they are getting themselves into..

so i was looking at ASUS "K8V SE Deluxe" K8T800 Chipset Motherboard, MSI nForce3 250 Chipset Motherboard Model "K8N Neo Platinum" (MS-7030), and MSI "K8T Neo-FIS2R" K8T800 Chipset Motherboard. the K8N is the most expensive but with rebate, all these are about the same price. I heard some bad things about MSI motherboards in general, and epecificaly about K8N. People say the K8N is good but has some small problems that you have to fix and upgrade bios and stuff. Since i really dunno much about computers, I think the Asus will be the best choice. Can I have opinions from the experts please? Thank you

Asus used to make great motherboards up until a year ago... They are really letting there quality slip, and I have no idea why. You were right about the MSI. A lot of people are having trouble with them, and also many of them seem to burn out quite early! I, for one, avoid MSI. There is nothing wrong with the Asus, I was just pointing out that they are getting slightly cheap. IMO take the Abit, or potentially a good Gigabyte (good as in one that is not based on the original AMD64 architecture... unless u are not using RAM with ultra low latency)... Once again... Good luck!..!

hmm in abit motherboards theres like 2 options....ABIT "KV8-MAX3" K8T800 Chipset Motherboard and ABIT "KV8 Pro" K8T800 Pro Chipset Motherboard....MAX3 is $140 which is a little too expensive but the Pro is $105, which is cheaper....I think they're pretty similar, cant tell what the difference is....
