The Sims SK Number

Hi
I've been having problems with the Sims Instalation .
I'm not to computer friendly .
We had installed it and removed it .
A friend told me how to remove it from the registry ...BUT...
now instead of always asking me for a disk when the disk was already in ,now it gives me a message that it is looking for an sk number .Did i delete something i should not have .

How do i get it back with out reinstalling all the software or reformating my pc ?
