Friend having Severe CPU temp problems.

He idles at about 45oC running a Stock P4 2.8Ghz

if he plays any games it hits 65 and crashes...any suggestions. (He lives in america for any upgrade tips)
 
Some motherboards have an emergency shutdown setting, so when he hits a certain temp like 70 or 80 celsius it might be causing it to restart. I had a P4 3.0Ghz CPU a while back and it always had heat problems like that. You might be able to get some arctic silver and clean off the old thermal compound with isopropyll alcohol and cotton swabs. Thats what I did on my P4. Actually, I also bought a thermaltake heat sink to replace that stock piece of junk. In the end it was about 10 degrees cooler :)
 
I would also check the video cards temps using Riva Tuner while playing the game up to the crash. P4's run hot to my understanding, exp witht he stock heat sink.
 
Everest Gives GPU at between 55-61 when playing games.

My C2D runs at around 36-43 depending on heat of my room and whether its underload.
