9800 pro outperforms 9600 XT which outperforms FX5900

* 6800 VERY SLIGHTLY outperforms X800 pro
* X800's arte less expensive than 6800's
- you'd pay about $1000 (aus) for a 6800 but about $700 for an X800
* the X800 looks better
* the X800 uses less power
* the X800 only uses one slot
* the 6800 has smartshader 3.0 but this makes very little difference to 2.0

Actually, in USD I found a 6800 Ultra for $365 or something at newegg.

Hey that brings me to another question.. Where would be the place to order from for the lowest price... You know, these are birthday presents and my dad dont wanna spend $500 on computer parts lol, he says my computer is fine, but I tell him no, he doesnt understand ;) (2.0ghz, geforce 4 mx440 128mb)... So for my birthday I got some games, and he said I can get ONE of the either [3.2ghz][radeon 9800 pro]... But I need both, so ... You understand my situation? lol

the $1000 for the 6800 ultra is in Australian dollars

if you have to choose between a P4 3.2 and a Radeon 9800 pro, tough call; the P4 is more expensive (so you can get a 9800 pro later yourself for less $) but the video card will make more difference

Tough luck for you Aussies. Here in America, we get nearly the same deal for the X800xt and 6800 Ultra.

Overall, nVidia stinks... ATI has much more power/performance. ATI is the future.

If nVidia turns out to be better, i'll be there to make sure you eat your own words.;)

I read somewhere (can probably dig up the link) that the 9800 Pro and 5900XT directly compete with eachother... My question is, for gaming, which would be preferred? The nvidia is a little less money, and that's more of what I'm looking at (they're birthday presents, who wants to spend close to $500 on two..or three... computer parts? :p), but...

Can anyone tell me the differences between the two cards, maybe some pros/cons, which has better FPS in games on the higher or highest settings, etc.. Thanks :)

I own a 5900xt and a 9800 Pro and my opinions are you should go with the 9800 Pro unless you like turning AA and AF everytime you play. The jagged edges really kill my eyes.;)

Here's a link:) :

From there, you should know what to choose.:)

dude, if you have a choice and dont have any money, you can get a 2.8 ghz p4 HT and a 9600 pro-9700pro for almost the same money as the 3.2ghz cpu alone... think about that..
