Howdy.

I've been using the same computer since 2004, and I think its time for an upgrade. I'm on a very strict budget, but i'd like to gain some performance on games like Need For Speed: Carbon, The Sims 2, FarCry, and Fable.

My current system:
1.7GHz AMD Sempron (overclocked to 2.0) *Socket 462
512MB Ram *pc2700
Geforce FX 5700le.
Raidmax 420w PSU (20+4 pin)

I'd like a new motherboard so I can get a newer graphics card and so I can upgrade my CPU later, I don't want to spring for the latest CPU right now.. I want something really cheap, I cant afford a 3ghz right now.

I'd LOVE a Geforce 8600gs, and those things are pretty cheap.

I have no idea how to upgrade however, what I will need.. how it will all work, I dont even know what to buy.. Thats why I came here for help :) I'm also on a very small budget of $300, and without a credit card my only means of payment is money order (sites like newegg support that I see)

Is there anything missing that I would need, upgrading so many items from such an old PC, I don't want to sit down only to find somethings are incompatible or i'm missing some mystery cord.

:)

I was also thinking about my power supply, Would I actually need a new one? If my old one is a 20+4 pin, it would also accept 24 pin, wouldnt it?

Well since you've been using it for 2 years already, I guess probably it would be OK. It's just that, it's not a recommended brand here.

So its okay? I would love to upgrade it.. But I'm tight on cash, Also I upgraded the GFX card to a $20 dollar more one.
