need help please

i am currently helping a friend fix his computer which was working fine
apart from some missing drivers, we installed the latest ati drivers for his radeon 9600xt after reboot windows now wont start, the pc goes through post ok then just before the xp splash screen it will reboot itself.

it wont start in safe mode or last good settings eaither, stopping on mup.sys in safemode, we preformed the recovery option for xp which had no effect.

upon taking the hard disk out and trying it in another system it booted fine which leads me to belive its some sort of hardware problem

we replaced the graphics card with a geforce which had no effect
tried each stick of ram separate (safe mode boot then said ntfs.sys missing)
tried other hard drives, same problem

this is getting really annoying we are hoping it is not the mobo

system specs:

amd 2800+ barton
2 x 512mb generic ram
radeon 9600xt graphics
120gb ide hard drive
nforce2 chipset
msi mobo

do you got sufficient power to run that video card ? maybe your power supply is to weak in wattage or amps

i have thought of that but the comp has been running fine for a year with that card and the windows driver
